As summer turns to fall and we prepare for long nights spent inside, the designers at Watson’s Furniture showroom want to help you stay outside for as long as possible. And the best possible way to extend your outdoor time into fall is to add heat. “Fire pits are still huge,” says designer M.C. Cox. Her fellow designer, Gwen Jones, agrees, adding that “fireplaces will generate a lot more heat, especially if they’re wood burning. Gas will generate some heat, but those are mostly for amb

Advancements in tools, techniques and materials help patients get back in the game, plus Beacon Orthopaedics works with teens. Professional and recreational athletes who are injured are getting back in the game quicker than ever because of recent advances in medical tools, techniques and materials. Minimally invasive surgery is one of the best ways to get patients back to an active lifestyle quicker because there’s less tissue damage and less blood loss, says Dr. Michael Kachmann, a neurosurgeon with Mayfield Brain & Spine. “We’ve just advanced our abilities to take out, say, a herniated disc or decompress a nerve thr

Is it time for a time out? Our yoga expert explains how two upcoming yoga retreats can give you the reset you’re looking for. The western life is considered by many to be among the busiest in the world. We try to cram as much as possible into the course of a day, constantly expecting more of ourselves and constantly falling short. If we could just make more time for our family. For our kids. For our health. For our friends. For our schools. For community involvement. For volunteering. Stop. Yo

Stretching for the Finish Line

Mother to eight-year-old twin boys. Runner of 12 marathons in 12 months. If this sounds crazy to you, it might be because you don’t love running quite as much as Sarah does. Sarah started running at 14 years old and, according to her, it was love at first sprint. “I fell in love with the feeling of accomplishment I would get

Why Practice is Our Purpose in Yoga.

Can you show me how to do that handstand where your legs come up over your head? Yoga teachers get a lot of questions like these from students. Many times, the student is a new one. They’ve seen a picture of someone, maybe even someone they know, on Instagram or Facebook in an incredible, beautiful pose and it has captured them. They’re in. For that pose. Ah, social media. These tools bring so many new opportunities for connection into modern life. If you’ve dabbled at all in the online yoga

Being Present on your Big Day

It’s wedding season. Yoga can help with that. Our yogi columnist explains. Hey out there, newly engaged ladies! Congratulations! If you’re like most brides-to-be, you’re probably already thinking about the things that you need to do before the big day. Amid all the choices you’re making about flowers, venue, dress, my guess is that you’re thinking about some personal remodeling as well.  You’d like to lose a few pounds. And you definitely want to tone up those arms.  Tighten the belly. Actually

Benefits of Partner Yoga

Our yoga columnist explains why partner yoga is so beneficial – physically and emotionally – and why you should grab a significant other or friend to give it a try. Before all the single ladies take a hard pass — partner yoga is not just for couples. Mental health professionals agree that social connection is incredibly important for we social human animals. Yoga is for Every Body

With Rachel Roberts. To launch a new yoga column here on Cincy Chic, our experts start off with a few basics – how it helps and who it benefits (hint: it’s everyone). Yoga teachers have heard every excuse in the book! But now is the time to commit, to shed the excuses. Simply put, here’s who CAN do yoga… EVERYONE. If you can breathe on your own, you can practice some form of yoga. If you can get up and down from the ground on your own, you can do yoga in a traditional yoga studio.

Reduce Workplace Stress With Yoga

Yoga Vespers

Perhaps you’ve been to Target at Newport Pavilion on a random Saturday morning in December and noticed the place swarming with police officers and fire personnel leading children around. Perhaps you were initially alarmed, but then noticed the officers and firefighters were chatting easily with the children. Perhaps you then noticed that their shopping carts were full, not just with toys, but also with clothing, books, toiletries. Perhaps you overheard a child say to the officer, “I can’t wait to give this to my mom.”

The Gift of Teaching

Every yoga teacher has different little rituals and preparations before we teach a class. Because most of us come in to The Yoga Bar from other jobs, family commitments, life, we each take a moment to do a little something. A few deep breaths. Maybe a little prayer. A few minutes of meditation or quiet contemplation. Something that centers us, which allows us to be present and hold space for all of you. But sometimes, these little rituals aren't enough. Sometimes, my centering just doesn't want

Taking it to the Streets

While our studios ARE fabulous, we love taking our yoga outside of the studio and into the community! We miss connecting with you weekly at Yoga on the Green and Yoga at St. John's... so we're always looking for ways to get out there and see you more! Here's where TYB has been lately. Mariemont Walk-A-Thon: On September 25th, Mariemont Elementary held a walk-a-thon to benefit their PTO.
